Since we painted our room in December, an awesome Tiffany blue, my wonderful husband has needed a side table by the bed. So on Thursday I took a trip down to Ikea to find this table with drawers I had picked out online. Uggh, half way through the store I told my self to think ahead and not wear heels to this enormous place next time. I found the item and started towards the "Get your own damned item off the shelf" area with a cart that rolled really well. A little too well. It rolled forward, backward, sideways, cross ways, circles... it was out of control! But none the less I found my #70 item, lifted it into the cart, found the check out which is completely automated now, had to lift the item up again cause the sku was on the bottom ... Meh...

Got it home and into the house. YEAH!!! So everyone knows with Ikea product some assembly is required. So here is the assembly process.

This is what I am making.

Getting started

Now this step with putting on the legs took me like 10 minutes just to figure out how to put them on correctly with the seam not showing and lining up with the holes.

Don't think I was supposed to use the hammer on these but it had to be done!

You wouldn't think tiny nails would give one so much problem but when I opened the package they flew EVERYWHERE!

15 nails successfully in place and the 16th, there I go again speaking too soon. Damn!

Cadence was such a great help nudging my hands while hammering and putting in screws. She was sad it wasn't pettins time. So I let her test the weight capacity of the drawers and my handy work!

Completed! Well almost. Time to put the drawers on the rails screw them in and stand back and admire.

Done!!!!!!

remember my dad teaching me the power of language at a very young age. Not only did my dad understand that specific words affect our mental pictures, but he understood words are a powerful programming factor in lifelong success.

One particularly interesting event occurred when I was eight. As a kid, I was always climbing trees, poles, and literally hanging around upside down from the rafters of our lake house. So, it came to no surprise for my dad to find me at the top of a 30-foot tree swinging back and forth. My little eight-year-old brain didn't realize the tree could break or I could get hurt. I just thought it was fun to be up so high.

My older cousin, Tammy, was also in the same tree. She was hanging on the first big limb, about ten feet below me. Tammy's mother also noticed us at the exact time my dad did. About that time a huge gust of wind came over the tree. I could hear the leaves start to rattle and the tree begin to sway. I remember my dad's voice over the wind yell, "Bart, Hold on tightly." So I did. The next thing I know, I heard Tammy screaming at the top of her lungs, laying flat on the ground. She had fallen out of the
tree.

I scampered down the tree to safety. My dad later told me why she fell and I did not. Apparently, when Tammy's mother felt the gust of wind, she yelled out, "Tammy, don't fall!" And Tammy did… fall.

My dad then explained to me that the mind has a very difficult time processing a negative image. In fact, people who rely on internal pictures cannot see a negative at all. In order for Tammy to process the command of not falling, her nine-year-old brain had to first imagine falling, then try to tell the brain not to do what it just imagined. Whereas, my eight-year-old brain instantly had an internal image of me hanging on tightly.

This concept is especially useful when you are attempting to break a habit or set a goal. You can't visualize not doing something. The only way to properly visualize not doing something is to actually find a word for what you want to do and visualize that. For example, when I was thirteen years old, I played for my junior high school football team. I tried so hard to be good, but I just couldn't get it together at that age. I remember hearing the words run through my head as I was running out for a pass, "Don't drop it!" Naturally, I dropped the ball.

My coaches were not skilled enough to teach us proper "self-talk." They just thought some kids could catch and others couldn't. I'll never make it pro, but I'm now a pretty good Sunday afternoon football player, because all my internal dialogue is positive and encourages me to win. I wish my dad had coached me playing football instead of just climbing trees. I might have had a longer football career.

Here is a very easy demonstration to teach your kids and your friends the power of a toxic vocabulary. Ask them to hold a pen or pencil. Hand it to them. Now, follow my instructions carefully. Say to them, "Okay, try to drop the pencil." Observe what they do.

Most people release their hands and watch the pencil hit the floor. You respond, "You weren't paying attention. I said TRY to drop the pencil. Now please do it again." Most people then pick up the pencil and pretend to be in excruciating pain while their hand tries but fails to drop the pencil.

The point is made.

If you tell your brain you will "give it a try," you are actually telling your brain to fail. I have a "no try" rule in my house and with everyone I interact with. Either people will do it or they won't. Either they will be at the party or they won't. I'm brutal when people attempt to lie to me by using the word try. Do they think I don't know they are really telegraphing to the world they have no intention of doing it but they want me to give them brownie points for pretended effort? You will never hear the words "I'll try" come out of my mouth unless I'm teaching this concept in a seminar.

If you "try" and do something, your unconscious mind has permission not to succeed. If I truly can't make a decision I will tell the truth. "Sorry John. I'm not sure if I will be at your party or not. I've got an outstanding commitment. If that falls through, I will be here. Otherwise, I will not. Thanks for the invite."

People respect honesty. So remove the word "try" from your vocabulary.

My dad also told me that psychologists claim it takes seventeen positive statements to offset one negative statement. I have no idea if it is true, but the logic holds true. It might take up to seventeen compliments to offset the emotional damage of one harsh criticism.

These are concepts that are especially useful when raising children.

Ask yourself how many compliments you give yourself daily versus how many criticisms. Heck, I know you are talking to yourself all day long. We all have internal voices that give us direction.

So, are you giving yourself the 17:1 ratio or are you shortchanging yourself with toxic self-talk like, " I'm fat. Nobody will like me. I'll try this diet. I'm not good enough. I'm so stupid. I'm broke, etc. etc."

If our parents can set a lifetime of programming with one wrong statement, imagine the kind of programming you are doing on a daily basis with your own internal dialogue. Here is a list of Toxic Vocabulary words.

Notice when you or other people use them.

-But: Negates any words that are stated before it.
-Try: Presupposes failure.
-If: Presupposes that you may not.
-Might: It does nothing definite. It leaves options for your listener.
-Would Have: Past tense that draws attention to things that didn't actually happen.
-Should Have: Past tense that draws attention to things that didn't actually happen (and implies guilt.)
-Could Have: Past tense that draws attention to things that didn't actually happen but the person tries to take credit as if it did happen.
-Can't/Don't: These words force the listener to focus on exactly the opposite of what you want. This is a classic mistake that parents and coaches make without knowing the damage of this linguistic error.

Examples:
Toxic phrase: "Don't drop the ball!"
Likely result: Drops the ball
Better language: "Catch the ball!"

Toxic phrase: "You shouldn't watch so much television."
Likely result: Watches more television.
Better language: "I read too much television makes people stupid. You might
find yourself turning that TV off and picking up one of those books more often!"

Exercise: Take a moment to write down all the phrases you use on a daily basis or any Toxic self-talk that you have noticed yourself using. Write these phrases down so you will begin to catch yourself as they occur and change them.

What a weekend

I had an absolutly good weekend. Went to a bar in town called Centerfields with my BFF and roomie. They have about a dozen TV's in the bar ranging from itty bitty to frickin huge. While we were they my BFF entertained herself with the Dodger gameand the rest of the crowd the laker game. We had a couple drinks and some nibbles. Freshly made potato chips were yum, but needed salt. Then on Saturday I was able to get out to breakfast with my husband and BFF, the french toast was so good, and the bacon.

Saturday night was the long awaited Birthday party of another BFF. 80's themed which only about a dozen people knew about. Heather had sent out an invite on Facespace and it didn't go to half the people. All the people in costumes turned out great though.

I knew I was going to be doing Heather's makeup for her b-day party which I had planned with her more then a month ago. I knew I was going to be doing my makeup before hers and I also offered to to Melanie's makeup. What I didn't expect was doing four faces in five hours! I couldn't resist another canvas so when Deli asked I said yes! So what if I was bound to time constraints and needed to do all my makeup and hair six hours before the party. I loved it! All I could hope for was that my skills were on that day. You some times you have it and sometimes you don't. Well I was on it that night. Even having to do Heatherts makeup in very little light it came out better then the test run. I loved my look, Heathers look, Deli's look, and Melanie's look. I'll post pictures soon.

Lovely ladies that were there Veronica and Alison, had great makeup. Veronica did this white, purple, and hot pink winged look that was was totally awesome. And Alison had on these green eyelashes with tiny feathers on the ends to finish off her aweswome makeup look. They were great with her black and green fish nets and way cute pointy, half heel with a buckle.

As someone said last night, " I don't think I have seen so many sidways pony tails in a while."

I am really happy with how this look came out. It has some dark purples and lilacs. I used one of my new Urban Decay 24/7 pencils and love it ! I also am wearing Urban Decay's new lip color Midnight Cowboy, which is a pretty nude color with a slight silver sparkle. Oh so in love with it!

For some reason I LOVE using bronze's in my looks. Not too happy with the lip stick color I used with this look, but I feel the colors and shape used on my eyes and cheeks were really pretty. Unfortunately I don't know if it is the ELF mineral eye shadows I used or if I didn't put enough eye primer on but the look creased .

A cute little daytime look I did. I was able to use the ELF Berry Mix Duo Eyeshadow cream with this look. I applied a very tine layer and used it as a base. It worked and didn't crease which the stuff does a lot otherwise.

New looks

Here are a couple of looks I did this weekend. I am not completely happy with some of the blending, eyeliner, and concealing, but I am just starting out and still learning how to work with the different eye shapes, facial features, brushes, textures, pigmentation and so on. I am finding out how much easier it is to apply eye makeup on myself then on others. It is hard to judge the pressure I am using on the models lids as I can't feel it only really see how the bristles are reacting to the pressure I am applying, but I suppose that comes with practice.

In my first picture I was matching her navy blue dress with silver jewelry and shoes she was wearing to a costume theme wedding. The first picture is one of the best looks I have done and am suprised by that since it was on a model and not myself. In my second picture I was trying to recreate a look from MakeupByRisa which was a deep purple smokey eye. With my third model I was trying to recreate another look from MakeupByRisa. This one I got the liner way too thick and the crease shadow way too light. I think I will try this one again but still feel this first attempt was a good attempt. The last two pictures were also recreations of looks by MakeupByRisa both done on myself. I am very happy with how all of them turned out. The fourth picture I don't think she named it but it reminds me of a Sunset and the fifth picture is called Peacocked. I was very happy how both of these turned out on me seeing as they are the best I feel I have done on myself.

American Idol 2010

I don't watch Idol this year but I use iTunes, and figured I would watch the 30 second preview for the top 12. From what I saw from the small clips I would put, not in any order, Katie Stevens, Crystal Bowersox, and Casey James in the top three. Liked all three very much, they have great stage presence and great voices. I'll have to review more of their songs as the show goes on to determine who my #1 will be. Although I could be completly off. I would have put Lacey Brown in the top 4, but she got nixed from the show at 12th place. Unique and cute voice.

It takes time to learn an art and with makeup it takes all different types of faces. It is awesome to see how willing people are to have me slather color on their face. It's fun. OMG is it fun. Even though I maybe working with an idea in mind it is still freestyle art with the shape, saturation, and colors. I am still apprehensive with doing my own total freestyle with someone else's face but with each time I do a face I learn a little more at a time and get more confidant with my shaping ability.

As you can see from some of my last posts I am really getting into makeup. lately I have been taking my inspirations from magazines, other makeup artists such as MakeupByRisa or my own ideas just from the colors I have in my small makeup selection.

I got my Ulta catalog the other day and fell in love with the new palette from Urban Decay featuring the new Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. The look the model was sporting was so cute I decided to recreate it with what I already have.

Wow, I am a ball of imagination, judge without jury, and self righteousness. I am also very organized, self giving, and a nurturer. I suppose this will make me a good mom.

I am in a self discover mood again. I go through this about once a year where I really delve into who I am at the moment kinda like a yearly psych evaluation of my own. Apparently my self evaluation may show I am not crazy of an irrational thinker but apparently since I am and ISFJ I go by my own set of rules whether they are correct ( I'd like to think so) or imaginary. Man I can make up some of the most interesting alternative realities being an ISFJ and a Pisces. To think about it I am very dangerous to myself.

On another note I am very please with how my new makeup venture is going. I am learning a lot from a YouTube channel Vlogger MakeupByRisa. Love the looks and she is a great artist. I finally learned how to use the quad from MAC my Sister-in-Law gave me. I give her the kudos for getting me interested in wearing make up. She had asked me to be her Maid of Honor in her up coming wedding which was the first wedding I had ever been in and she insisted I wear makeup for pictures. The rest is history. I'll try and put pictures up later of my look using the quad from MAC she gave me.

Today I am going to talk about to-do lists. How long can you keep track of a to-do list
before the to-do list is to much to-do?

Most of the time I find myself spending more time on creating the to-do list then actually doing what is on the list. It's more fun planning to be organized then actually being organized, why is that? Less effort I suppose. My to-do lists are always made up of daily mundane chores like, walk the dogs, cook dinner, and clean up the bathroom, like putting them down on a list that I can check off is going to motivate me or make the chore easier to do. It adds to the chore. Oh, let me add to my list (Check off to-do list items.)

It reminds me of homeroom during Jr. High School, when they introduced Goal Packets. It's Monday morning and you sit in homeroom for 15 minutes writing down your goals for the whole week. Tuesday through Friday you sit in homeroom for those 15 min telling yourself you'll make it a goal to meet your goals next week.

So I downloaded an App. from the iTunes store hoping that paying $10 will get me to actually keep track of my to-do list, and actually motivate myself to be more productive. Here's hoping $10 will change my life!
